Hotels and Motels    BACK TO CLEANING APPLICATIONS

Smells develop in hotel and motel rooms from moisture, body odors, food, beverages, and the occasional cigar or cigarette smoker. Fumes and odors adhere to the walls and ceiling and get embedded in the carpet, the furniture, the drapes and bedding, as well as the bathroom.

Ozone generators are very effective in removing these odors.  For example, rooms designated as non-smoking are sometimes smoked in by the occupant.  Simply cleaning the room will not eliminate smoking odors because the fumes penetrate the furniture and fabrics, and microscopic smoke residue clings to the walls and other surfaces.

Solution: To eliminate this problem, an ozone generator is brought into the room after it is cleaned by housekeeping. The dial turned to 20 to 60 minutes, depending on the severity of the odors, and the room is vacated for treatment. The O3 fills the entire room, contacting the walls, ceiling and crevices, penetrating fabrics and oxidizing the tobacco odors.

Note: The fan on the thermostat for the room air conditioner may be turned to the ON position to circulate the O3 and remove odors that build up inside the ductwork and unit itself.

When the next guest enters the room there is no trace of an odor from the tobacco smoke.  And there is no residual smell from deodorizers that try to mask odors, which many guests find objectionable. Your customer will enjoy a fresh smelling hotel room, and this greatly adds to guest satisfaction.*

* A July 2007 survey by JD Powers and Associates found that "hotel room odors" are one of the top 5 concerns of guests nationwide.

Restaurants, Bars, Delis and Coffee Shops     BACK TO CLEANING APPLICATIONS

Eating and drinking establishments build up odors from the food and beverages they prepare and serve, as well as other factors such as body odors and humidity.  Odor causing substances and vapors gets trapped in carpet and flooring, furniture and fabrics, as well as on many other surfaces and crevices in the facility. Residue from food and beverages also encourages micro organism growth wherever it lands.

Solution: The best way to eliminate these odors is to run the Odor-Free unit at a high level while the facility is vacant.  Let the last person who leaves at night turn the unit on and allow the Odor-Free to opperate for several hours, oxidizing the odors and reducing micro organism count. The unit should be turned off a couple of hours before reopening.

Note: The fan on the thermostat for the air conditioner may be turned to the ON setting to circulate the O3 and remove odors that build up inside the ductwork and unit itself.

Ozone generators are very effective in removing these types of odors. As a result, your patrons will have a much better dining experience with a fresh smelling facility.

Smoking Bars, Casinos, Pool Halls, Bingo Parlors, and Pubs    BACK TO CLEANING APPLICATIONS

Tobacco smoke, beverages and food are a potent combination for saturating the facility with heavy odors. Odor causing substances from food and beverages find their way to the floor and furniture as well as other surfaces and crevices in the facility. Tobacco fumes penetrate the carpet, upholstery and drapes.  Microscopic smoke residue will cling to the walls, ceiling and most other surfaces. Sweat and body odors can also find their way into the upholstery.

The Odor-Free is very effective in these types of environments because the O3 attacks odors at their source. As the O3 is circulated throughout the room or facility it oxidizes the fumes and the residue that clings to surfaces. It will also follow the same path that the vapors took when they entered the soft materials and oxidize those embedded odors. Since odor causing substances are constantly being generated, the space should be treated regularly, preferably once a day after the cleaning crew is finished.

Solution: A great way to eliminate these smells is to run the Odor-Free unit at a high level while the facility is vacant.  Let the last person who leaves at night turn the unit on and allow the Odor-Free to operate for several hours, thereby removing odors and reducing micro organism count. The O3 will circulate throughout the room, penetrating fabrics and oxidizing the tobacco smell, as well as the other odors.

Note: The fan on the thermostat for the air conditioner may be turned to the ON setting to circulate the O3 and remove odors that build up inside the ductwork and unit itself.

Houses, Apartments, Condominiums and Rental Properties    BACK TO CLEANING APPLICATIONS

Smells develop in homes and rental units from food, beverages, body odors, moisture, pets, and the occasional cigar or cigarette smoker. These adhere to the walls, ceilings, cabnets and crevices. They also get embedded into the carpet, the furniture, the drapes and bedding as well as the bathroom, kitchen and closets.

Ozone generators are very effective in removing these odors.  For example, a property designated as non-smoking is sometimes smoked in by the occupant.  Simply cleaning it will not eliminate smoking odors because the fumes penetrate the furniture and fabrics, and microscopic smoke residue clings to the walls and most other surfaces.

Solution: To eliminate this problem, after the room is cleaned by housekeeping, an Odor-Free is brought into the room and plugged in. The dial turned to several hours or longer, depending on the severity of the odors, and the area is vacated for treatment. The O3 fills the entire space, contacting all surfaces, penetrating fabrics and oxidizing the tobacco odors.

Note: The fan on the thermostat for the air conditioner may be turned to the ON position to circulate the O3 and remove odors that build up inside the ductwork and unit itself.

When the next tenant enters the room there is no trace of an odor from the tobacco smoke.  And there is no residual smell from deodorizers that try to mask odors, which many people find objectionable. Your customer will enjoy a fresh smelling property, and this greatly adds to guest satisfaction.* See Hotels for smaller spaces.

Rental Cars, Tour Buses, and RVs    BACK TO CLEANING APPLICATIONS

All vehicles build up odors from regular use. There are the usual spills from food and beverages, which get down into hard-to-reach areas.  Tobacco fumes can penetrate upholstery and microscopic smoke residue will cling to the ceiling and other interior surfaces. Pet and body odors can also become embedded in the seats and carpets.

Solution: To eliminate this problem, an Odor-Free unit is placed on the seat and plugged in after the vehicle has been cleaned. An extension cord may be used with the window open a few inches. Set the dial for 30 minutes to several hours, depending on such things as the size of the vehicle, how long it was smoked in, or severity of the odors. Then close the door but leave the window open a few inches. The O3 will fill the interior of the vehicle, penetrate fabrics and oxidize the odors.

Note: If tobacco smoke has penetrated the air-conditioning system, the fan for the vehicle should be turned on, and the re-circulate option selected if available.

Upon returning to the vehicle, open the windows to ventilate the interior. The O3 creates a clean, sanitizing smell that dissipates within an hour.  There is no need to mask vehicle odors with perfume like deodorizers, which some customers find objectionable and others may be allergic to. Your customer will step into and enjoy a fresh smelling vehicle.

Boats, Yachts and Cruise Ships    BACK TO CLEANING APPLICATIONS

Moisture inside marine vessels creates a potential breeding ground for microorganisms and the development of odors in many spaces onboard. There are also the usual spills from eating food and drinking beverages, which get down into hard-to-reach areas. Tobacco fumes will penetrate the upholstery and microscopic smoke residue will cling to the ceiling and other interior surfaces. Sweat and body odors can also be a factor. The result is a potent combination for developing unwanted odors in various rooms, cabins and galleys.

Solution: To eliminate onboard odors place an Odor-Free in the room and plug it in.  Turn the dial to 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the severity of the odors, and vacate the room for treatment. The O3 circulates throughout the area, oxidizing odors in hard to reach places and reducing micro organism count.  As a result, your passengers will now have a much better sailing experience in a fresh smelling cabin or vessel.

Note: O3 is very effective in reducing micro organism counts.  Ozone is used in food processing, sewage treatment and as a substitute for chlorine in municipal water supplies in some European countries. An important benefit of using O3 is that it reverts back to O2 about an hour leaving no residual chemicals.

Water and Flood Damage     BACK TO CLEANING APPLICATIONS

When water floods all or part of a facility, it is sometime neccessary to have a professional water damage restoration company come in to perform the initial cleanup.  They can also evaluate unseen damage and make recommendations.  If odors begin to develop, most water restoration companies will bring in an ozone generator to remove the odors, which can be an expensive service.

Even after the cleanup has been completed, odors often develop because moisture has permeated difficult to reach areas.  Mold and mildew can become a factor as well.  If the area smells musty, there's a good chance that mold spores are in the air.  These can come from cracks and crevices that lead into problem areas.  Ozone will migrate to the cracks and crevices and oxidize the microorganisms that it comes in contact with.

Solution: To eliminate these odors, close off the area to be treated and place an Odor-Free unit in the area.  Then vacate the area and run the ozone generator for several hours or even longer depending on the severity of the odors.  Allow the O3 to dissipate prior to re-occupying space.  If it returns, repeat the ozone treatment again. In the event that all of the moisture has not been totally eliminated, treatment may need to be repeated periodically.

Note: O3 is very effective in attacking mold, mildew and mold spores.  At high levels, O3 attacks the cell structure of these microorganisms and breaks down their ability to reproduce.  Ozone will not, however, migrate through walls and sealed off areas.  It primarily works on the same areas where normal airflow can reach. See Mold as well.

Tobacco Smoke, Cigarette Odors, Fire and Smoke Damage     BACK TO CLEANING APPLICATIONS

Buildings that have suffered fire and smoke damage are somewhat similar to those that have been exposed to weeks or months of tobacco smoke. The smoke fumes and chemical vapors penetrate almost every aspect of the facility. They penetrate the carpet, upholstery, drapes, clothing and other soft materials.  Microscopic smoke residue will cling to the walls, the ceiling, the closets, the cabinets and most other surfaces. Damage that results from fire or heavy smoke may require longer term ozone shock treatment.

Ozone is very effective in eliminating odors from smoke damage because it attacks these odors at their source.  As the O3 is circulated throughout the room or facility it oxidizes the fumes and the residue that clings to surfaces.  It will also follow the same path that the vapors took when they entered the soft materials and oxidize those embedded odors.

Solution: To eliminate these odors, close off the area to be treated and place an Odor-Free unit in the area and plug it in.  Then vacate the area and run the ozone generator for several hours or longer depending on the severity of the odors. (If tobacco has only been used for a few days in the space, for example, it may take less than an hour. If tobacco has been used for years, it may take two or three days.) Allow the O3 to dissipate prior to re-occupying space.  If you notice that the smoke odor has not been completely eliminated, repeat the ozone treatment again. See Hotels as well for dealing with smaller spaces.

Note: The fan on the thermostat for the air conditioner may be turned to the ON setting to circulate the O3 and remove odors that build up inside the ductwork.

Mold, Mildew and Damp Basements    BACK TO CLEANING APPLICATIONS

Mold and mildew thrive in damp environments.  If the area smells musty, there's a good chance that live mold spores are in the air.  These spores can reproduce by the millions creating health issues, as well as damaging the building and its contents.

O3 is very effective in attacking mold, mildew and mold spores.  At high levels, O3 will deteriorate the cell structure of these microorganisms and break down their ability to reproduce.  Ozone is not, however, able to migrate through walls and sealed off areas.  It primarily works on the same areas that normal airflow can reach.

Solution: To eliminate these odors, close off the area to be treated and place an Odor-Free unit in the area and plug it in.  Vacate the area and run the ozone generator for several hours or longer depending on the severity of the odors.  Allow the O3 to dissipate for at least an hour prior to re-occupying space.  If it returns, repeat the ozone treatment again. In the event that the source of the moisture has not been completely eliminated, treatment may need to be repeated on a periodic basis.

Pet and Animal Odors    BACK TO CLEANING APPLICATIONS

People love their pets but too often find themselves living with the odors they generate. Animal odors get embedded in furniture, carpets, bedding and even clings to the walls and ceiling.  Accidents can occur and territorial issues often compound the problem.  The entire area where a pet stays is usually permeated with their odors.  And these odors are more noticeable by guests who are not pet owners.

Ozone is very effective in eliminating animal odors because it attacks these odors at their source.  As the O3 is circulated throughout the room or facility, it oxidizes the odors on the surface level.  In addition, O3 is a very active molecule and will follow the same path that the animal odors took when they entered soft materials, such as carpets and upholstery, and oxidize those embedded odors as well.

Solution: To eliminate eliminate animal odors, close off the area to be treated and place an Odor-Free unit in the area.  Remove all pets and vacate the space while the ozone generator runs for several hours, or longer depending on the severity of the odors.  Allow the O3 to dissipate prior to re-occupying space.  If you notice that the pet odor has not been completely eliminated, repeat the treatment again. As long as pets share the space, the treatment will need to be repeated periodically.

Schools and Classrooms     BACK TO CLEANING APPLICATIONS

Schools and classrooms develop odors as a result of being used for extended periods by a variety of occupants.  Even after rooms have been cleaned by the janitorial staff, stubborn odors can linger and be difficult to remove. A residual odor can call into question whether the room has been properly cleaned by staff.

Solution: The best way to eliminate these odors is to run the Odor-Free unit at a high level while the facility is vacant.  Let the last person who leaves at night turn the unit on and allow the Odor-Free to spend several hours oxidizing the odors and reducing micro organism count. The unit should be turned off a couple of hours before the facility re-opens. As a result, both students and instructors will have a much better learning experience with a fresh smelling facility.

The O3 creates a clean, sanitizing smell which dissipates within about an hour.  There is no need to mask vehicle odors with perfume like deodorizers, which some people find objectionable and others may be allergic to. See Dormitories and also Locker Rooms.

Dormitories    BACK TO CLEANING APPLICATIONS

Smells develop in dorm rooms from moisture, body odors, food, beverages, and the occasional smoker. Fumes and odors get embedded in the carpet, the furniture, the drapes and bedding, as well as the bathroom, and can also the cling to walls, ceilings and other surfaces. Microorganisms can also thrive in this type of environment as well.

Even after the janitorial staff has cleaned the room, odors may return because all surfaces are not part of the cleaning protocol.  Ozone is very effective because it attacks them at their source.  As the O3 is circulated throughout the room or facility, it oxidizes the odors on the surface level. In addition, O3 is a very active molecule and will follow the same path that the odors took when they entered soft materials, such as carpets and upholstery, and oxidize those embedded odors as well. At high levels, O3 deteriorates the cell structure of microorganisms and breaks down their ability to reproduce.

Solution: To eliminate this problem, an Odor-Free is brought into the room and plugged in. The dial turned to 45 minutes or longer, depending on the severity of the odors.  The doors are closed and the area is vacated for treatment.

When the next occupant enters the room, there is no trace of an odor from previous occupant.  And there is no residual smell from deodorizers that try to mask odors, which many people find objectionable. The next student will have a clean, fresh smelling room.

Note: if there is a return vent in the room for the HVAC system, it is best to tape the return closed with plastic or paper.  This will keep the O3 inside that particular room to do its sanitizing work and not circulated into other areas.

Locker Rooms    BACK TO CLEANING APPLICATIONS

Locker rooms and gymnasiums are notorious for developing odors that are not easy to eliminate.  Moisture from the showers, steam and bathrooms combine with sweat and body odors to saturate the facility. Microorganisms thrive in this type of environment.  They can be found not only in the cracks and crevices but also on many surfaces, including walls, ceilings and lockers.

If the area smells musty, there's a good chance that microorganisms are present.  Even after the janitorial staff has cleaned the facility, the odors are still there because many crevices and surfaces are not part of the cleaning protocol.  Nonetheless, a residual odor can cause guests to question whether the area has been properly cleaned by staff.

This process may be repeated weekly or even daily, depending on the severity of odors.

As a result, the facility will have a fresh smell of cleanliness.

Kitchens    BACK TO CLEANING APPLICATIONS

Commercial kitchens generate odors that build up from repeated use. Keeping them clean can be an ongoing challenge because residue from food preparation automatically begins to deteriorate. Moisture is sometimes present and odors circulate inside the kitchen, as well as into other areas, which can saturate the entire facility. Microorganisms thrive in this type of environment.  They can be found not only in the cracks and crevices but also on many surfaces, including walls and ceilings.

Even after the janitorial staff has cleaned the facility, the odors may return because all surfaces are not part of the cleaning protocol.  Nonetheless, a residual odor can call into question whether the area has been properly cleaned by staff. Offices    BACK TO CLEANING APPLICATIONS

Smells can develop in offices from food and beverage spills, body odors, moisture and the occasional smoker. Fumes and odors get embedded in the carpet and the furniture, and may cling to the walls and ceiling as well. Simply cleaning an office with odors is often not enough.

Solution: Ozone generators are very effective in removing a wide variety of office odors.   To eliminate this problem, an Odor-Free is brought into the room and plugged in. The dial may be turned to 30 minutes or longer, depending on the severity of the odors.  The doors are closed and the area is vacated for treatment. The O3 will circulate throughout the room, penetrating fabrics and oxidizing the odors.  For deep seated odors that require longer treatment the ozone generator can be set to run for several hours while the facility is vacant.

When the next occupant enters the office there is no trace of an odor from previous employee.  And there is no residual smell from deodorizers that try to mask odors, which many people find objectionable. Your associates will enjoy a fresh smelling office, and this greatly adds to their satisfaction.

Note: if there is a return vent in the office for the HVAC system, it is best to tape the return closed with plastic or paper.  This will keep the O3 inside that particular office to do its sanitizing work and not circulated into other offices.  In the event that the entire office suite has developed an odor it is best to sanitize the space during off hours when it is unoccupied.

Nursing Homes and Hospitals    BACK TO CLEANING APPLICATIONS

Care facilities in which residents or patients spend a great deal of time in bed often have odor problems.  Food and beverage spills, normal body odors, waste and bodily fluids generate fumes and vapors that get embedded in the furniture, drapes, bedding, the carpet and also the cling to walls, ceilings and other surfaces. Microorganisms thrive in this type of environment as well.

Even after the janitorial staff has cleaned the room, odors may return because all surfaces are not part of the cleaning protocol.  Ozone is very effective in eliminating these types of odors because it attacks them at their source.  As the O3 is circulated throughout the room or facility, it oxidizes the odors on the surface level.
